Fort George

Fort George is a vast, largely unaltered 18th-century artillery fortress at Ardersier on the Moray Firth, approximately 11 miles northeast of Inverness, built after the Jacobite rising of 1745. Operated by Historic Environment Scotland, it remains an active army barracks and is open to the public, hosting events as well as housing the Highlanders' Museum.
